Introduction

Since a military coup in 1980, Liberia has experienced a period of intense yet sustained political, economic, and social disruption. The series of conflicts have been characterized by widespread violation and abuse of human rights. This has included: deliberate and arbitrary killings; disappearances; torture; widespread rape and sexual violence against women and children; forced recruitment and use of child soldiers; systematic and forced displacement; and the indiscriminate targeting of civilians.

Many communities have suffered from a deterioration of vital infrastructures. This includes no electricity, hardly any safe drinking water, no functioning sewage system, or proper garbage collection system. The health care services have also been greatly affected by looting and destruction of the structures. The very low levels of income have made the situation even worse. All this has left to an increase in the number of diseases and sickness amongst the most vulnerable, the children.

Twenty years of protracted conflict severely affected the lives of an estimated 3 to 3.5 million Liberians of which a majority have been displaced at least once. Hundreds of thousand of children who lost either one or both parents during the war have to fend for themselves. Some joined foster homes where they are sent out to sell and eventually become exposed to all kinds of street violence.

Helping the Children regain their lively hoods.

We have to remove these children from the streets and from these kinds of situations to a safe environment, free from diseases, street peddling, sleeping outside in the streets, and give them a hope for tomorrow by putting them back in a home thus giving them the chance to return to the class rooms and prepare them for the future. We owe it to them.

The Kormah Children Home/School orphanage is here to build and provide a home and education for approximately 800 to 1000 children. The ground works have started and the foundation for the school has been constructed. The construction works are ongoing.

In this regard, we are soliciting help in whatever way possible to make these vulnerable babies and children smile again while preparing them for the future. Remember they are the future of Liberia.

The most needed at this stage is building materials to move the building faster to completion. We would also appreciate any kind of financial donations and/or the below listed items:

Presently the organization has rented two buildings to host 120 children. The monthly budget to care for these children is US $4'800, - (four thousand eight hundred USD). The construction of the new home will last between 8 to 10 months.
